Ways to Help Erectile Dysfunction
Are you one of those unfortunate males that suffers from erectile dysfunction?… Are you tired of erectile dysfunction ruining your sex life? Fact! 90% of male impotence cases are a result of a physical problem like circulation. In other words, about 9 out of 10 men suffer from this disease because of a poor lifestyle or diet. Millions of males all over the world suffer from erectile dysfunction and it is now a very acceptable topic to consult with your physician; there is nothing embarrassing about this subject and over the years, advances in the field of medicine have given rise to various medical treatments for erectile dysfunction.
Erectile dysfunction is a condition where a male is unable to achieve an erection or sustain an erection to perform sexual activity. An erection is achieved when the brain sends a chemical signal to the penile muscles causing it to relax. It starts with sexual stimulation that can either be in tactile or mental form. A chemical called nitric oxide released in the nerves is responsible causing the penile muscles to relax and allow rapid blood flow. This blood accumulation fills up the penis much like an inflated balloon and causes it to be erect. When another chemical phosphodiesterase type 5 presents itself, the nitric oxide is broken down causing the penile muscles to constrict again and lose the erection.
Now there are many ways to treat erectile dysfunction. Some are immediate short term solutions and others are more long term. When I started to investigate solutions and causes to this problem, I wanted to concentrate on 3 things.
- Pinpointing the cause of the dysfunction
- What are the safest ways to treat the condition and
- What drugs are marketed directly to the erectile dysfunction market
Erectile dysfunction is mainly a blood circulation problem and most common cause of the condition is damage to the nerves, arteries, smooth muscles, and fibrous tissues resulting form diseases like diabetes, kidney disease, alcoholism, neurological diseases, and other cardiovascular diseases. In a nutshell it is mainly a blood circulation problem. About 70 percent of those suffering from erectile dysfunction are known to have any or a combination of these diseases. Testosterone deficiency is also a hormonal problem that can result in erectile dysfunction. Pinpointing the cause of the dysfunction makes it easier to find ways to help erectile dysfunction.
Now there is tons of literature out there and quite often getting a hold of the right book to help you cure erectile dysfunction may be all you need…or maybe a combination of the right literature and natural remedies is the way to go. Here is a book which has proved to be of great potential – it’s an eguide book with the title Finally! A practical book on erectile dysfunction that real men are using to have amazing sex. I’ve listed a couple more on top – the Erection Master and Breakthough new method gives any guy stiff powerful erections simply, naturally and without drugs – check them out – all great reading material;
Natural ways such as taking herbal medications are perhaps the safest ways to help erectile dysfunction. These herbal supplements are often recommended as part of a nutrition therapy that also involves taking vitamins and minerals and doing regular exercise. The good part is that these herbal cures contain the same ingredients as prescription drugs but not the risk factors involved.
Epimedium Grandiflorum extract, otherwise known as the horny goat weed, has been used for centuries in reproductive beverages that boost the sex drive and treat erectile dysfunction. This extract also contains icarin, a flavnoid, the same ingredient found in common erectile dysfunction prescription drugs. Other herbal ways to help erectile dysfunction in a natural way are taking gingko biloba for improved penile blood flow, L-Arginine for the creation of nitric oxide, zinc to compensate for mineral deficiency, and Indian ginseng for body strengthening.
Now where does nitric oxide come into play? As mentioned above nitric oxide released in the nerves is responsible for causing the penile muscles to relax and allow rapid blood flow. Nitric oxide is a gas released, each time we breathe, by the cells that line our blood vessels. The release of nitric oxide relaxes the minutely tiny smooth muscles in the walls of our arteries. Relaxed arteries in the penis allow blood to surge in and cause an erection.
Smoking and excess weight reduce nitric oxide production because they impair breathing. Scientists are not exactly sure why diabetes impairs your ability create and release nitric oxide, but it does.
Perhaps the best ways to increase your nitric oxide production and thus increase your blood flow and improve your symptoms of erectile dysfunction is by exercising, losing weight, and quitting smoking. However, for those whose lifestyle doesn’t include these ideal behaviors certain drugs and supplements also increase your nitric oxide production.
Other oral drugs approved by the FDA to treat erectile dysfunction include Cialis, Levitra and Viagra. They all work by a similar mechanism with subtle differences in how long they work and how quickly they work. The main ingredient is a PDE5 inhibitor and acts to regulate the flow of blood in and around penis. When the blood flows easily, it results in hard erection, which is necessary for a satisfactory sexual intercourse.
One interesting statement I found with all these drugs is: Avoid eating grapefruit or drinking grapefruit juice while being treated with this medication unless your doctor instructs you otherwise. Grapefruit juice can increase the amount of certain medications in your bloodstream.
Your doctor will determine the best way for you to take these drugs. Follow your doctor’s directions exactly.
Use of these drug do not protect against sexually transmitted diseases (e.g., HIV, hepatitis B, gonorrhea, syphilis). Practice “safe sex” such as using latex condoms.
